“Alpha’s music comes together with an irrepressible enthusiasm that makes you want to move in response, thanks to Diallo’s multinational band and cross-cultural musical influences.” --Edmonton Journal
From his dexterous acoustic and electric guitar playing to his fluid melodic lines and compelling grooves to his band Bafing (complete with high energy African rhythms, visually stunning dancers and a sizzling percussion section) Alpha Yaya Diallo brings a dynamic World Beat performance to the stage.
Born in Guinea, West Africa, and having grown up in a number of regions, Diallo has been exposed to a variety of cultures and musical traditions. By uniting those traditions with contemporary influences, he has created a unique and highly-acclaimed musical experience. He has won three Canadian JUNO awards, produced five albums of his own compositions and was the only North American artist asked by the United Nations to create a compilation CD to raise further awareness around the issue of HIV/Aids, hunger and debt relief in Africa titled Imme Africa/Get Up Africa.
**This is a joint effort production! In order to bring high quality entertainment at affordable prices, we have collaborated with the Orcas Center to present Alpha Yaya Diallo at each island theatre. Support from the San Juan County Lodging Tax Fund assists in those team efforts.
