In the spotlight - June 2009:
Lilo Rustmann is a happy multi-volunteer!
I moved to San Juan Island in November 2005 after living in Sacramento, California for 45 years. (I was born in Germany, came to Canada in 1958 and then moved to California two years later.)
My friend Barbara Marrett had been volunteering at the Theatre and was ill one night so Bob Querry asked me to come in and help take tickets. Ever since, I’ve been here!
I host/take tickets, usher and work concessions, plus I help in the business office folding programs, organizing board meeting folders and helping to file the Theatre’s archives. Sometimes I’m here every day to get programs in order for a performance. Every time I volunteer during a show, I stay and watch. I especially like the classical music.
I feel very comfortable here. I’ve made so many friends and met so many interesting and good people. I’ve learned so much and I always go home happy. I walk to the Theatre all the time and people will honk their horns because they recognize me—I can’t say enough about how wonderful it has been here.
In addition to the Theatre, I volunteer at the Mullis Center for the senior breakfasts and at the Thrift House on Mondays. I also enjoy going to garage sales every weekend with my good friend, Gloria Benson.
This way I like to give back for all the help I received from friends on the island and I ABSOLUTELY recommend volunteering at the Theatre!
Thank you, Lilo, for touching lives at SJCT.
