Shelley and Woody Shelton-Wilson:
The Couple that Hosts Together…
A year and a half ago, Shelley and Woody Shelton-Wilson started to become “empty-nesters” when their youngest daughter, Kai, graduated from Spring Street International School (older daughter, Gaia, is 22).
Shelley: When Kai graduated, Woody and I realized we’d have more to time to do things together. I really enjoy being able to see the productions and can’t afford to see all that I want, so volunteering as a host--I mostly help in concessions--gives me the opportunity to see more plays and live music.
Woody: Shelley told me to volunteer [laughs]. It’s really fun to do and get out together. I’m self-employed [owner of Whatzit Machining, Inc.] and kind of am stuck in my hole a lot, so this gets us out to see people.
Shelley: It’s fun meeting all of the other volunteers and it’s a great way to get involved in the community.
Woody: I like selling the wine and beer because it’s just a fun way to meet people. People are relaxed and ready to joke and laugh.
Shelley: I knew for a long time that there was this opportunity to see Theatre events for free by volunteering…I’m so glad we can now take advantage of that and help the Theatre at the same time.
