Directing Mainstage Productions at SJCT
(Please read these instructions carefully and in full.)
Experience
Mainstage productions are SJCT’s most significant commitment for the director’s time and the Theatre’s budget. Some directorial experience is required. Examples include:
- Directing or assistant directing at other theatres OR
- Directing or assistant directing a mainstage SJCT production OR
- Directing a smaller SJCT production (On Book, Directing Class, Director’s Lab) OR
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theatre Directing or Performance.
Submitting a Mainstage Proposal
SJCT accepts submissions to direct mainstage productions between December 1 and January 31 for the following season (October-September). Submissions are limited to 2 per director. Those interested in being considered for mainstage directing opportunities should:
1. Schedule a time with the Artistic Director to discuss your proposals. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to set up an appointment.
2. Submit information on your proposed production through our online form.
3. Provide a physical or digital copy of the script(s) and your directing resume (if available) to the Artistic Director.
You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your submission. The Artistic Director will follow up regarding interviews on any submissions under consideration for production.

The OnBook Readers Theatre Program is a wonderful opportunity to hone directorial skills, no experience necessary!
