San Juan Community Theatre is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our team as a part-time contract Summer Teaching Artist. This position plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and engaging environment for young aspiring theatre students. This is a seasonal position, running from July 1 to July 18, 2024, and it offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of campers while sharing your passion for theatre.


  • Teaching: Serve as the primary teacher and director for the following classes and camps:
    • Storybook Theatre Camp - Ages 5-7

M-W and F, July 1-3 and July 5, 10:00-12:00 @ PARC studio

"Theatre is all about telling stories so students will learn how to use their voices and bodies to tell stories and create characters.  Kids will demonstrate what they've learned on the final day of class. - Min 5 Max 12"

8 hours, $64 Register by June 1/ $80 Regular Registration

  • Musical Theatre Ensemble Camp Pt 1 - Ages 8-12

M-Th July 8-11, 2024 9:30-11:30

  • Musical Theatre Ensemble Camp Pt 2 - Ages 12-17

M-Th July 15-18, 2024 9:30-11:30

"The ensemble in a musical is where all the action is!  Join our fun camp and learn a couple musical numbers that highlight the ensemble.  Campers will learn how to create their own characters and let those personalities shine!"

8 Hours each, $64 Register by June 8/$80 Regular Registration

  • Support Creative Expression: Encourage campers to express themselves creatively through various theatrical mediums, fostering a love for the performing arts.
  • Organize Performances: Collaborate with the rest of production team to rehearse and conduct end-of-camp performances, showcasing the talents and achievements of the campers.
  • Provide Guidance: Offer mentorship and guidance to campers, helping them build confidence, teamwork skills, and a sense of accomplishment through theatrical experiences.
  • Safety and Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers by maintaining a secure and supervised environment during all activities.
  • Manage Camp Logistics: Assist in the day-to-day operations of the theatre camp, including setup, cleanup, and coordination of special events.
  • Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Keep parents/guardians informed about camp activities, their child's progress, and any important updates.
  • Promote Inclusivity: Foster an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that all campers feel valued and respected.


  • Previous experience directing in theatre, performing arts, and working with children is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity and a passion for the performing arts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).


This is a seasonal position during the summer months. The camp schedule is set as listed under the Responsibilities section. The Director may also work on pre-camp planning, collaborating on the technical design for set, lighting, props and costumes, to be scheduled with the Director of Education.

Pay Rate: $17-$19 per hour
