Cellist Sasha von Dassow – a former member of the Florida Orchestra and music director and conductor of the North Port Symphony –brings his Friday Harbor Chamber Music Festival back to the Whittier for its third year.  Featuring NW professional musicians and a variety of chamber and unique pieces, the festival offers classical summer charms!

FRIDAY, JUNE 23 –Cecilia Archuleta, violin and Charles Enlow, piano, join new artist Luka Sesek, viola, and Artistic Director and cellist Sasha von Dassow.  The concert opens with Arcangelo Corelli's variations on "La Folia," followed by Mozart's sparkling DUO for Violin and Viola in G Major, K.423. The first act will be rounded out with Eduard Toldra's three pieces from Sis Sonets.  Following intermission,  Robert Schumann's popular and rousing piano quartet in E-flat Major, Opus 47 will complete the evening. 

SUNDAY, JUNE 25 - Debussy's dazzling and impressionistic sonata for cello and piano from 1917 opens up the concert, featuring Sasha von Dassow, cello, and Charles Enlow, piano.  The rarely heard Brahm’s Sonata in E-flat, Op. 120, no. 2 follows with Luka Sesek, viola and Charles Enlow, piano. Finishing the concert will be Mozart's stirring piano quartet in g minor, K. 478 played by Cecilia Archuleta, violin; Luka Sesek, viola, Sasha von Dassow, cello and Charles Enlow, piano.

FRIDAY, JULY 21 – This concert has a varied look at music with an unusual combination of players. The artists include Luka Sesek, violin, and Eileen Swanson, viola, along with Artistic Director and cellist Sasha von Dassow.  Joining them will be new Festival artists Laurel Alyn-Forest, Soprano, Alex Dunn, Guitar, and Friday Harbor favorite, pianist Grisha Krivchenia.  From the Paganini Terzetto for Violin, Guitar and Cello; to two new pieces by Grisha: Finding Refuge, a song cycle for soprano and piano, and Mi Rosita Azul for mixed piano ensemble; to the dark glory of Brahms' Op. 91, Two Songs for Voice, Viola, and Piano. Also on the program will be a newly-discovered duo concertante for guitar and cello by Legnani and songs by Schubert and others.

SUNDAY, JULY 23 – This special master class in the Gubelman is a chance for local groups and students to perform and receive feedback from the Festival artists.
